Emilie Phaneuf

DIRECTOR | CHOREOGRAPHER

Emilie has been dancing since she could walk. Her passions are dancing, choreographing, teaching and performing. She loves to mix all her styles. With over 15 years of teaching experience; she is also a nationally certified fitness and yoga teacher. BPM (Beats Per Minute) was created by Emilie & Sabrina Joseph in 2009. Her favourite styles are Reggaeton, Dancehall, Hip Hop, Salsa, Bachata... She loves them all!

Fun Fact: Emilie worked as the Head Dance Choreographer for Club Med Punta Cana, Dominican Republic.

Lydia Spencer

MANAGER

As a teen, Lydia was a figure skater that took dance to enhance her skating. As an adult she started taking street styles. Lydia has been dancing with Emilie for over 10 years and a BPM Dance Troupe member for 7 years. Her favourite styles are Reggaeton and Burlesque.

Fun fact: Lydia is a mother of two and her kids also take dance lessons with Emilie.

Laura Brown

Other than performing “The Macarena” at elementary school concerts and watching much-loved dance movies, such as “A Chorus Line” and "Strictly Ballroom", dance was not a big part of Laura’s life growing up. As an adult, Laura tried out fitness classes and from there got into Street Dance, which she adores! Laura started dancing with Emilie in spring 2015. Her favourite styles are Dancehall and Hip Hop.

Fun fact: Laura was born and raised in British Columbia.

Allie Vandervalk

As a kid, Allie took a few Ballet and Jazz classes but ended up stopping in order to pursue other activities such as horseback riding and music. As an adult, she decided to give dance another try and signed up for Street Dance. Allie has been dancing with Emilie since spring 2015. Her favourite styles are Afro and Dancehall.

Fun fact: Allie learned to run (not walk) when she was 9 months old and hasn't stopped moving since.

Mélanie Couture

Mélanie has always enjoyed moving to music whether to Billy Ocean with her Dad or the Dance Mix 90's albums in high school. Mélanie has no formal training but has never turned down an invitation to dance! She started dancing with Emilie in spring 2016. Her favourite styles are Reggaeton and Dancehall.

Fun fact: Mélanie has had 4 rounds of sleep deprivation training: once with the military and once with each of her three kids.

Stefani DiGaetano

Stefani has always enjoyed performing, from high school musicals through university where she studied Theatre. Stefani started dancing with Emilie in summer 2016, and she hasn’t looked back since! She has a passion for popular and cultural dances from around the world, and she takes classes in Afro Beats, Street styles, Salsa, Bachata, Reggaeton, and Brazilian Samba. Her favourite styles are Afro Beats, Salsa, and Samba.

Fun fact: Although Stefani didn’t take many dance classes growing up, she did practice traditional Sicilian folk dancing as a child.

Jasmina McConnell

Jasmina a.k.a Jas, has always loved dance and has been taking classes since she was 6 years old. Following in her mom’s footsteps, she began teaching fitness and various forms of dance over 10 years ago. She has completed her 200-hour Yoga certification, as well as Barre and Pilates certifications, and she loves to learn and challenge herself and others. Jas is CanFit certified and has taught everything from dance to bootcamp classes. She is driven by Urban and Street dance styles, with a focus and love for Dancehall. Although she is small, her presence and love for all things dance is larger than life.

Fun fact: Jas is the first person in her family born in Canada, coming from her Croatian and Slovenian roots.
